Art & Tech for a Better World is proud to feature the book Digitally Well: Structure and Society in the Tech Era by Oluwatosin Olabode

I-Learning to live in a new era

We are living unprecedented times.

Pandemic situation accelerated all across the world an intensive use of technology that makes it possible to go on working, learning, and communicating with our colleagues, families, and friends.

And this is so great.

We can’t imagine how would be our lives in these pandemic days without technology.

But business, schools, and life are changing for all of us.

The way we work, we learn, and our relationships are changing.

We entered a physical and digital world and like history teaches, scientific and technological evolution never went back. So, we can be sure that the world is been changed not to come back.  Therefore, we must adopt changes for going on, we haven’t a different option.

But I don't love the idea of being the only actors of this great chance for the world, I believe that the wise attitude is catching this opportunity to learn, yes, learn in the deepest way we can imagine.

We need to flourish in digital times, so we need not only to learn how to find the better use of technology; we need to learn how to live in a digital world.

II-A physical-digital world

As Oluwatosin stated, this book will “help us digitally flourish as we co-exist in the physical and digital world.”

Our challenge is not to live in a physical-digital world, but living only one life, a healthy one.

How to manage this parallel existence is not an easy topic for everybody. And not only survive in this both-sides world but how to flourish in it.

Surely, we all experienced how technology helps for improving our work but on the other hand, can distract us from our professional goals. So, learn how to focus our attention on what matters while using technology, no doubt, is one of the lessons we need to learn for flourishing in the Digital World.

As with any tool, across history, technology needs to be used and oriented by humans.

We can use tools for a better life and a better world, or use them in an unhealthy way, against us. For adults, learning is an intentional attitude, in consequence, we need to choose to learn. This book not only will help us to learn but will help us to keep on learning

III- Discovering identity or creating it?

Oluwatosin proposes to “learn to discover your identity as against creating them per platforms you interact with”

Identity is a central structure for mental health and must be preserved and protected.

Digital Rights are a social topic of great importance for people, societies, and nations’ public health, and it is important for all citizens, this is critical for kids and teenagers. Not to be aware of these issues is to open the door to psychological illness and ethical trespasses.

To be who you are, and not be like others is the root of self-esteem.

Self-esteem is an extremely important health issue to be protected, so all we need as Oluwatosin proposes: “Learn how social media can protect your mental health instead of affecting it negatively”

To “discover identity” is a typical teenager’s challenge, but this task remains for all life. And that is because we are a mystery for ourselves. We can't reach the deepest level of our mind and soul. In addition, we are changing all the time living, experiencing, learning

So, as the author prevent us, very different is “learn to discover your identity as against creating it per platforms you interact with”

To "create an identity" is to assure an unhealthy life, trespassing who we are.

IV- Society in the Tech Era

Every day, everywhere, and everybody is creating society.

You can say that as common citizens we have fewer possibilities to frame society, in comparison to government. Yes, probably it is true. But nowadays, living in an interconnected world, even a teenager can be an influencer, even more, could be a platform developer, and social-media leader. If social media is available, an incredible world of possibilities is open for framing ideas, concepts, and actions.

In consequence, we must be not only aware but compromised to build a Digitally Well world.

I have no doubt this work will help us to do it
